For the first time in 32 years, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina cancels its 11 fireworks shows

Wednesday, June 17th, 2020

For the first time in 32 years, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina has canceled its 11 fireworks shows. The 2020 shows were scheduled for June 16th, 23rd and 30th, July 4th, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, and August 4th, 11th and 18th.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the subsequent crowd size limitations, social distancing requirements and safety concerns, the Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina fireworks shows are one of many annual celebrations that have been forced to cancel in 2020.

For more than three decades, the Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina fireworks shows have served as the centerpiece for Hilton Head Island’s most popular multi-week event, “HarbourFest,” which includes seasonal nightly entertainment and numerous family friendly activities, and regularly attracts large, fun-loving crowds. HarbourFest has been named a Top 20 Event by the Southeastern Tourism Society and a Best of Southern Fests by The South magazine.

Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina is located in the middle of Hilton Head Island across from Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, just off the Intracoastal Waterway.

“We know many locals and visitors will be disappointed, but at this time current crowd size limitations prohibit us from doing the event,” said Palmetto Dunes Chief Operating Officer (COO) Brad Marra. “There was just no way to maintain social distancing at such popular events. We felt that this was the most responsible direction to take when it comes to protecting our community and our guests.”
